1What it is and how to log in

NOCTUX is where the shop logs and follows every job. What you put in, the others see right away, and the other way round. Nobody has to ask “where are we with this one?”.

  1. Install NOCTUX from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). Its icon is an orange owl.
  2. Open it and type in the email and password your boss gave you.
  3. Log in. You'll see the shop's Jobs list.
Not a fan of typing?Almost every field has a microphone 🎤. Tap it and talk: NOCTUX types it for you. Perfect when your hands are full.

2The main screen

Each card is a job. At a glance you see its status (the color), the part, the vehicle and the client.

At the bottom you always have Jobs and Clients.

3Logging a part as it comes in

This is the most important thing you'll do. Do it as soon as the part arrives, don't leave it for later.

  1. In Jobs, tap the orange + New job button at the bottom right.
  2. Add the client: search for them if they're already in, or type their name. Mark Private or Trade.
  3. Add their phone number.
  4. Fill in the vehicle (make, model, engine, plate) and the part type.
  5. Type or dictate 🎤 what the client is asking for and what state the part is in.
  6. Take photos of how it arrived (knocks, cracks, dirt, tags).
  7. Tap Save job, the orange button fixed at the bottom. If anything's missing, it tells you and takes you to that field.
Photos cover youIf the client says “it was already like that”, you've got the photo of how it came in. Always take photos when a part comes in.
Job details
Inside the job: tabs with everything.

4Working a part step by step

Open the job by tapping it. Inside there are tabs. Fill them in as you go:

Inspection

In the Inspection tab, mark each thing you check (cracks, flatness, valves, pressure test…) as OK, Not OK or Ask the client. Add notes if needed.

Tasks

In Tasks you see what needs doing to this part (strip-down, cleaning, machining, assembly, testing…). At the top are this job's tasks; below, folded away, is the list for that part type: tap one and it goes onto the job. If something isn't needed, tap it again and it goes back to the list. With Copy you take the list with you to paste into your invoicing software.

Parts

In Parts, note down the spare parts to order; the usual ones for that part type are just below, one tap away, with their reference and supplier already filled in. Mark it Ordered when you order it and Received when it arrives. If something's missing, it's clear the job is on hold waiting for parts.

5Changing the job status

At the top of the job there's a big button with the status (for example IN PROGRESS ▾). Tap it to change it as the job moves along.

Also, from the Jobs list, each card shows the button for the next step, which changes with the status (for example Mark as finished), and Mark as delivered when the client takes it away.

If you get it wrong, no problemWhen you change a status, a message pops up at the bottom with Undo. Tap it and the job goes back to how it was. Go ahead, you can't break anything.
